WILLIAM SAVAGE | ‘Kulap (Gorr) shaker’ | Small | Green / goldThese Kulaps are woven from rope and made with seeds from Matchbox Bean (Burny Bean) tree. Traditionally the dry seeds are cut in half, then strung on to vines to make a traditional musical instrument . Kulaps are used as a musical instrument (rattle or shaker) in the Torres Strait during traditional ceremonies and dancing, also complementing singing, drumming and chanting.
